Making sense of microdermabrasion

Looking for ways to make skin glow, refine its texture and to rejuvenate? Then consider a series of microdermabrasion treatments to give your complexion a refreshing boost.
Microdermabrasion is an increasingly popular skin treatment which can treat a wide range of skin conditions with little to no down time. Patients can return to their normal daily activities after their treatment and see results instantly.

Who is it for?

Microdermabrasion can be used to improve the following skin conditions:

Acne

Acne scars

Pigmentation

Sun damage

Fine lines and wrinkles

Uneven skin texture

Rough skin texture

Reduce pore size

Skin needing rejuvenation

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation system. It works by removing the most superficial layer of the skin, also known as the dead layer of skin cells. The dead skin makes the skin appear dull, unhealthy, dry and congested. It can even make wrinkles look deeper and pigmentation darker.

Skin is the largest organ in our body, made up of millions of cells which regenerate daily. Although our body constantly produces new skin cells, the dead layer of the skin covers up these new fresh skin cells. Regular microdermabrasion treatments will safely remove the dead layer of skin and promotes new skin cell growth. This painless process exposes the younger, fresher skin beneath and reveals a more even color and smoother texture. The skin looks fresher and healthier with fewer lines, wrinkles. It can definitely improve acne and acne scaring as well as lightening skin pigmentation beautifully.

In order to see significant results, a series of microdermabrasion treatments are required. Depending on your skin concerns, it can take anywhere between four to 8 treatments to see good results. Regular maintenance treatments are recommended every 4-8 weeks, and a suitable skin regime should be followed.

Warm Regards,

I am here to explain all the details about the “Dreaded Brazilian Wax” It’s really not as bad as you might think. You just need to know a few things and I promise, after you have it done, the memory will be just like having a baby–you’ll forget what it was like.

I use azulene wax. Azulene is an essential oil derived from German chamomile. It is an excellent anti-inflammatory, analgesic and detoxifier. Extremely calming and soothing to the skin. It makes the waxing experience about 70% less painful then other resin wax used in most places

If you shave, you will need to grow your hair out for about two weeks. If the hair is too long, the wax will not come off easily. It needs to be about half an inch to an inch long. If it’s any shorter, the hairs will break and grow back quickly, rather then six weeks which would be the result you are looking for.

Now, the most important part of the process: Who ever you chose to go to for your wax, make sure they never DOUBLE DIP the wax sticks. Each stick should be throw away each time it is dipped into the wax. Double dipping causes bacteria to grow in the wax which cause STD’s and other bacteria infections. The second important part are GLOVES. I know from experience, to get every hair, I need to get into every nook and cranny, so GLOVES are an absolute must.

When you’re choosing the person who will be doing this specific wax. Please (and I can’t stress this enough) chose someone who is VERY EXPERIENCED. The Brazilian waxing is not just any wax, it’s very specific. We must be fast, sanitary, and very knowledgeable in terms of knowing which way the hair grows. The last thing you want, is to be laying there for 45 minutes with someone inexperienced! OUCH!!! 10-15 minutes is all it should take.

I hope I have dispelled any fears or myths regarding Brazilian waxing. The wonderful result you get will be like baby skin–soft and clean from front to back!

Warm Regards,

As we know, acne is horrible, It’s embarrassing and it seems like it never goes away. Just when we think we have it under control, another one pops up and the whole thing starts all over again. Yes, it’s true, if you have oily skin, you are going to produce more bacteria, which produces acne. I’m sure you’ve purchased every magic potion under the sun to help combat the problem. I’m here to tell you there are a few rules you need to know and I can promise you, in a few months, your problem will go away. There are a few occasions that internal and or topical medication from a dermatologist may be needed, but for the regular person who has annoying breakouts, the solution is simple, but it may not be easy.

1. Keep you skin extremely clean which means NEVER sleep with your makeup on. Cleanse, Tone and moisturize every morning and every night. Make sure your toner is alcohol free and your moisturizer is oil free with a small amount of glycolic (AHA)

2. When you have breakouts NEVER touch them. Even if it’s a whitehead, NEVER ever touch them. You see, if you do an extraction improperly, the bacteria from the pimple, erupts on the surface of the skin and under the epidermis (skin) which causes bacteria to spread to another area. This is why you probably notice a small family of pimples popping up right by the one you initially squeezed. There is a way to do the extraction properly. This is why, through the years I’ve had such success with my acne clients. I teach them about acne…the do’s and the don’ts and after a few months amazing things begin to happen. Their skin clears up, pigmentation problems begins to disappear and life goes on.

I know I make it sound so simple because it is! Like I said, It’s simple, but for some people, it may not be easy. So many of us are habitual pickers. Constantly looking in the mirror, analyzing every pore on our faces. What you’re actually doing is stimulating your skin and then the problem continues. So, from this day on, make a conscience effort, one day at a time, to stop looking in the mirror, keep your hands off your skin and let nature do it’s course. I promise, you will be rewarded with the skin you’ve always dreamed of!

Warm regards,

I can remember when I was a teenager in the 1970′s. My senior picture highlighted a girl with long brown hair and pencil thin eyebrows. The 1930′s brows were back with a vengeance! I even had a friend who did electrolysis, to make them perfectly thin forever. Styles come and go, but medium thick, well groomed eyebrows will never go out of style.

Many of my clients come to me with overly tweezed/waxed/threaded brows from either their own hands or from someone who doesn’t realize that styling brows is an actual art. Almost anyone can wax a lip, but not a eyebrow!

It takes about 2-3 months to completely grow them in. My suggestion is to see your esthetician every 2-3 weeks and let them create a stencil from which they can grow. They can fill them in with brow powder and show you what it will look like, which will give you the confidence to know they will come back!

Just a little eyebrow 411

Your eyebrow should start at the bridge of your nose–NOT at the edge of your eye

Your arch should start just under your iris

Only tweeze the lower strays, but leave the new sprouts that create the arch to the professionals about every 3-5 weeks

Good luck!

My clients often ask me, what are the most important products that are essential for my skin….The must haves. I will always tell them sunblock and eyecream. First of all, living in southern California and dealing with the dryness, can wreak havoc on your skin. If you’ve grown up here, Im sure you have seen the damage the sun can cause. My recommendations are: use #50 sunblock with zinc mixed into your moisturizer daily. You will have a barrier protecting you from the daily sun and zinc will give you the extra protection. Even when you drive, the sun will find it’s way and sneak through the side window. Believe it or not, office ultra violet light can dry out and damage your your skin as well.

Eyecream: Did you know you do not produce oil under your eyes? The skin under your eyes is very fragile and dry, which means you MUST keep it hydrated at all times. I’ve been wearing eyecream since I was 15 and I can honestly say, my lines are very minimal. A good eyecream, that is rich in antioxidants is what I recommend. My favorite is the Cellex-C Eyebalm. When you apply it, you will feel hydrated through out the day.

My clients often ask me, Why can’t I use moisturizer under my eyes? That is a very good question. My answer always is: Eyecream is very specific, packed with ingredients made for the delicate tissue under the eyes. Moisturizer is specifically made for the face with a different set of ingredients. You wouldn’t want to use your eyecream on your face……

Happy New Year!!

Every time I do an eyelash perm, I am always amazed how fantastic everyone looks after. I call it the “big reveal” or the “WOW” factor. I’m sure you’ve used an eyelash curler and let’s not forget the “diehards” who heat up their curler! If that sounds like you, then an eyelash perm is right for you. Some of my clients have such straight lashes, it can hinder their eyesight.

How its done:

I choose a roller that is correct for your individual desired curl. I apply it to your eyelid. I add glue to the top of the roller, then start attaching your lashes one by one to make sure the lashes are evenly attached. (don’t worry, it’s not painful, though you might want to bring your Ipod, if you don’t want to listen to spa music!) Once this is achieved, there is a 3 steps process: A very gentle perm solution is applied for 15 minutes. Once removed, the neutralizer is applied for 10 minutes, then the cleaner for 5 minutes. Then I remove the rollers and viola!!…. perfectly curled beautiful eyelashes. The ones you have alway dreamed of!!( and I mean that!)

If you have light lashes, and want to take it a step further, I would recommend an eyelash tint after the perm. They will be, dark and curled and gorgeous! Great for blonde, light brown and red lashes.

If your lashes are:

long and straight

short and straight

light and long

medium length

The only lashes that would not be a good candidate would be, short and curled or long and very curled

If you would like to see how its done, please click on “View Clips” to the left of the page and see for yourself if Eyelash Perming is right for you!

Best regards,
